From 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2026, the Chair in Circular Economy and Territories received funding from the European Union under the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet programme, through the CLOLOCALL project.

Its aim is to facilitate the implementation of the circular economy by providing local stakeholders – businesses, public authorities and citizens – with tailored tools, knowledge and support. Following the conclusion of the CLOLOCALL project, the activities undertaken under the Chair are continuing, particularly in the areas of research, teaching, knowledge dissemination and the development of new collaborations.

    The Essential Role of Territories

Cities and regions are crucial catalysts in implementing the circular economy. By proposing incentive-based public policies, financing local initiatives, and providing appropriate infrastructure, they create favorable conditions for advancing the circular economy. However, within the European Union, only a handful of cities (less than 40 out of more than 800 with a population of over 50,000) have adopted strategies conducive to the circular economy, underscoring the necessity for intensified efforts.

    Missions

    Research and Expertise

    • Understand and analyze: We conduct in-depth studies to examine the drivers and barriers to the circular transition, relying on case studies and concrete data.

    • Map initiatives: We identify and highlight the most inspiring initiatives in responsible consumption, reuse, recycling, and waste valorization across Europe.

    Awareness-raising and Promotion

    • Enhancing Understanding: We educate the general public, policymakers, and economic stakeholders about the benefits of the circular economy for the environment, economy, and society.
    • Inspire and mobilize: We showcase successful projects and engaged actors to encourage action.
    • Train stakeholders: We provide training sessions and workshops to enhance the skills of local participants.

    Advocacy and Influence

    • Shaping Public Policies: We formulate concrete recommendations to advocate for the advancement of the circular economy at both the European and national levels.
    • Build Bridges: We promote exchanges and partnerships among businesses, communities, researchers, and citizens.

    Working with all territorial stakeholders

    Policymakers

As catalysts, regional and local authorities play a crucial role in implementing circular principles in key areas of the circular economy, such as construction, food, mobility, waste management, and economic development. We support them in defining and executing ambitious public policies.

    Businesses

Businesses are the laboratories of circular innovation. By promoting eco-design and using sustainable materials, they help limit resource depletion and pave the way for new economic models. We support them in integrating circular economy principles into their business models and daily operations.

    Citizens

Citizens are the primary beneficiaries of the circular economy. We raise awareness about the importance of their consumption choices and encourage them to adopt more responsible behaviors.
